We have been to this restaurant several times over the years and it is always good. Our dinner was very good as usual, but was a little disappointed in my cut of filet. Fried lobster is still my favorite. Service was very good as usual and overall a good experience. Always a little pricey for a couple with a couple of cocktails.

Eh! OK, this is a first class restaurant. The decor, ambiance, service, and view of the harbor is fantastic. 5 stars. However...... First of all this place is extremely overpriced, seems like most places are like that in Destin these days. I dont think I'll ever get used to paying $50 for an 8oz. filet, but thats what you get here, and its the best thing on the menu. I had the Wagyu Hanger steak, and it was served sushi style (ordered medium rare but it was raw....not rare....raw) with hahahaha wait hahahaha hang on a sec hahahaha a "Chimichurri" sauce covering the sliced beef so that I couldn't see that my steak had never touched the flames. It looked like green slime, and thats about what it tasted like. All in all it was a positive experience but we wont be going back, the food doesn't meet the standards of their price structure.

Nice romantic spot. Service was fine but the food was just okay. The fish was fresh of course but we weren't wild about the sauces or the preparation. The gumbo appetizer is a good starter option but I don't have a reccomend stood for the main course.

My husband and I came here based on reviews! The location was perfect! Across the street there was a live band!,So if the weather is nice, definitely recommend eating outside. We ordered the beef carpaccio, salads, seared tuna, and pan seared grouper and brandy mushrooms. Everything was delicious! Only complaint is that entrees are limited. I recommend sharing sides, it's meant for family style serving. They give an iPad or tablet to order. It offers visuals so you can see how something is prepared, and it offers wine pairings ! What a great idea! We also saved room for dessert! HMM, the bread pudding was warm and filling! My husband preferred the New Orleans version, but it was yummy. I highly recommend making reservations before coming, very busy.

Nice dinner outside on a Wednesday night listening to a blues band play in the park. Great service. Food was ok, not great. The presentation of the food on cafeteria style plates disappoints. I won't be in a hurry to go back.

We got a large group sat right away and our service was fantastic. (Aside from the bread girl who acted like her job was miserable). The appetizers were excellent, especially the baker Brie. I tried a friend's soup and it was yummy. But no one at our table liked their entree. From what I remember, I got grouper, someone else got fried lobster tail, someone else tried the steak, and someone else tried a sweet potato encrusted filet as the special. No one finished their food or wanted to take leftovers. The prices are high and the sides are separate and range from $7-9. I don't mind the prices if the food is good, but it was barely tolerable.

Seriously hands down one of the best meals we had in a while. Can't complain about anything we had!

Food and service were very good, however, as much as we like dining in low light, these folks need to turn it up a little. We struggled to read the menu!! When it is THAT dark, you begin to wonder if they are hiding something!

Location, location, location. Food was good, but not great. Still, one of my favorites when in Baytowne

Here's a little story to set the mood. Once a year a group of nine close friends gets together to catch up, stay close, and have one nice meal together. This year, we chose the Marlin. We fly and drive in from all over the nation to do this. Myself.... A 14 hour drive. It's not that we do it FOR dinner, but it is integral to the trip. We arrived and the place was gearing up for a busy night. Got a great table by the window. The dimly lit ambiance was nice. We met our waiter who was phenomenally courteous and really made the whole dinner a great experience. We ordered a good variety of entrees and sides. Everything was delicious. The creamed spinach did, as our waiter put it, "taste like heaven." You are probably wondering why the deuce did this guy post up ONE STAR!? Well, that is simple. You can't give zero. In planning this ever important yearly trip, we don't just visit restaurants on a whim. We research and call to set details. We wanted to celebrate one of our friends' birthdays and had a few emails and calls with the owner and manager about them making a cake for us to have after dinner. We have done this in the past, at other places and sure you'll pay $60, $80, maybe more for a handcrafted cake for the table, but it's always been a great way to celebrate. We had worked this out with them ahead of time. Good..... Or so we thought. Dinner finished up, cake came out. Looked nice. Very professional and fancy. Our amazing waiter even brought out some candles for it! Got to eating and it wasn't that good. Decided to box it with the leftovers. The box is from a Publix grocery store. $23.99. Now we are just plain INSULTED. We spend nearly $600 on dinner to finish with that. They tell us they will make one, and then run up the street for a Publix cake!! So what is the bill for that? $65. We would have stopped through on our way in for that....but that isn't the point here. Our server had no idea. He thought we in fact had done just that. After speaking with the manager he said he would just charge us the price on the cake box. That's fine. We did eat some. To close, the manager is a liar and a crook. I urge you to think twice before you patronize this establishment. There are PLENTY of others in this great city to spend your money at.

Really nice date night spot here. (Low lights nice) We had several items all were good. The waitress we had was Ms.K from New Orleans and she suggested different dishes as well as desserts. We ate so much there was no room for dessert! (Heads up) The prices are a bit high, but since the meal was good, and we were stuffed and service was great I'm not gonna complain. The crab artichoke chowder is so FREAKING DELISH!! I want the recipe!! I'm gonna try and copycat it. :)

Great location and overall a great night out in the warf. Hubs started with shrimp cocktail he's been dying for and loved it. I started with the small Cesar but lost the anchovies and subbed in ranch (their dressing had anchovies also). Salad was decent but not special. We went for steaks, hubs having the Ny strip and me the ribeye. Both were cooked to order and arrived hot. The caramelized onions were a yummy topping. Seeing that they had scallops on special, I asked to add onto my entree and the chef accommodated. Although he charged $15 for 3 scallops, they were so yummy and the sauce had the perfect spice to it. We got the a la cart mashed potatoes and they were super bland....disappointing! Service was good and ambiance was nice. They were very accommodating and professional. Love the location.

Great place for a date night. Their outdoor seating was a perfect spot to watch the live music outside. I got the grouper and it was amazing and the staff was friendly.

Four adults and a toddler for a late dinner server was a sweet Russian girl . Shared the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. We had peppered tuna, duck, and two bronzed mahi mahi. Not a bite left on anybody's plate. Prices were consistent with a restraunt of this caliber. They went out off their way to please.

This place is lovely! We went for thanksgiving dinner since we were here visiting. They had the option of traditional thanksgiving dinner or we could order from there menu. We had a group of 5 and 3 of us got thanksgiving dinner and the other 2 fish dinners. We loved how cozy and intimate the place seemed. The Christmas decorations were beautiful inside and out! The waitstaff was helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and huge portions! The price was right for the amount you got. Tuna and Grouper were fantastic. The thanksgiving dinner (ham, turkey, creamed spinach, potatoes, soup, salad and dessert) were great as well. No complaints. It's not the absolute best food I've ever eaten, but I'd eat there again...it was great!

  • Monica S.

The menu is varied. Steaks and seafood. 2 to 3 fish dishes. Food was very good. I had a special which included tuna, grouper and mahi. Food was very good. The French fries are amazing. Battered in the same batter they use for the onion rings. So they are like a fry combined with an onion ring. Crispy and yummy!! Salad was also good. A lettuce wedge with blue cheese dressing and a side of blue cheese.

I'll make this short and sweet. Here are the highlights: The wait staff is very attentive and it's in a great location. However, the food was not good...at all. I am a huge fan of crab, so I ordered the crab cocktail - awful! Never thought I'd say that about crab. My friend ordered the filet and said it was nothing to write home about (for the price, it should be). I'd recommend passing this one by!

  • Lauren S.

Good food! Definitely pricey, but the wait staff is friendly and accommodated our group of 7 with two high chairs without any fuss. Grouper was phenomenal and the two sides we had were devoured. Burgundy mushrooms and a Mac n Cheese with ham - yum! Such a great dining experience.

FOOD: A SERVICE: B AMBIANCE: A FOOD: Great seafood and steak entrees. The Grouper is highly recommended. The fried calamari was very good as well. SERVICE: Good service. Due to high volume and it being June in Florida, I rarely get outstanding service service at popular tourist restaurants. Our waiter did fine, but was a little slow getting started with our table. AMBIANCE: If sitting outside, Baytowne Wharf can be a little like being at Six Flags. The interior of the Marlin Grill is nicely furnished/decorated. My preference would be inside seating. Overall, a highly recommended place to visit especially if you are staying at the Grand Sandestin (a mere short walk to dinner).

In town for the Wine Festival and made reservations here on the advice of friends. Glad we did! Service was excellent, wine list terrific and the seafood....Wow! At our table we tried the red snapper, crab stuffed grouper and ceasar salad. All were excellent. Entrees are generous, salads easily split. Sides are a la carte but unless you are VERY hungry entrees will fill you up. Met Tom the owner. Very warm and welcoming put us at an upstairs table overlooking the wharf. Great location, nice view, fabulous food. Go here!

So to begin this review I would like to start with a positive comment about this establishment at the Sandestin Resort. The decor was functional and mordern- the ambiance reminded of a 1930s Berlin tavern that had collided into a bourgeois Midwestern country club. The evening began with a overly creamy "crab" chowder that's substance was obviously based in a Campbell's soup can. Following, I'm sorry- during this "course" a modest assortment of breads was presented (namely white or wheat rolls were offered). When the actual entrees were presented to the party, the overcooked Ribeye steaks came with a obscure mixture of onions and barbecue sauce masqueraded as a "Demi-glacé". Additionally, an assortment of side dishes was offered of which our party ordered the asparagus, Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. The portion sizes of these sides that were intended to be shared for "2-3 patrons" reminded me vaguely of the daily rations offered to American POWs in Japanese concentration camps. I have to say with a clear conscience that the quality of the food offered at this "upscale" restaurant was of such poor quality and presented by such a poorly trained and incompetent staff (including management- who even reneged on their initial agreement to remove the cost of the steaks from the ala carte menu) that I would highly recommend to any individual staying anywhere near this resort that their money would be better spent in the drive thru at a Chick FilA than Marlins.

Someone needs to retrain every employee and remind them of there job descriptions. I enjoy fine dining and believe that you should get what your paying for . This meal experience was not at all what I was billed for.

Our experience was perfect. Our steaks where cook to perfection . Loved the whole experience. I never recommend going and anywhere at rush or taking little ones to nice places. This isn't the place to take a large group or a baby. Touristy but damn good steaks

Beautiful restaurant! We ordered the cowboy ribeye $42 and the Grouper ($34?) and asparagus $12 the asparagus was anemic. But they did give you enough for two ppl. We did enjoy the meal even though a loud bridal party was next to us. They left about half way through the meal so much more enjoyable after that. Good food but I have had better for a less price. This restaurant is located in Baytowne Wharf, so likely the prices reflect the area and not necessarily the food. We finished every bite so good review, just go in expecting to pay handsomely for some good food. Our server was excellent!

The Wood Grilled Mahi Mahi and creamed spinach was very tasty. The crab stuffed Grouper was good also. Marlin has a good local beer selection. I enjoyed the Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale.

Run, do not walk, away from this restaurant. Ate dinner there while staying at the Sandestin Resort for a work function. First impressions say a lot. It was November 14 and someone had thrown up Christmas all over the exterior and interior of this place. It was over-the-top decorated with garlands, lights, and ornaments. This was the first sign that I knew I was in trouble. Service was prompt but impersonal. I felt like I was in an assembly line. Drinks, bread, apps, entree, leave. Second trouble sign was the delivery of the bread. Once placed on my plate the served used an ice cream scoop to dole out a sphere of butter nearly the size of the roll itself. Ordered the crab and artichoke chowder for an appetizer and a beef filet for entree. Can't go wrong with a steak. Third sign I was in trouble: sides were ala carte and I noticed creamed spinach on the menu. I asked if I could have sautéed spinach instead and was told "No. That's all prepared in advance." "You can't sautee spinach?" I asked with disbelief. Answer was "nope." I opted to stick with just what I had ordered. Chowder came and it was the consistency of paste. That and it's barely warm temperature made it tough to choke down but I did it. The steak was actually fine and cooked the way I requested. I passed on dessert as I wanted to get out of there so can't comment on that but given that creamed spinach was made in advance I'm not holding out hope that the desserts are much better.

My wife said the chicken is the best thing she has ever ate. The sautéed Grouper is awesome as well. We have ate there 2 years in a row for our anniversary.

Ate here for our 13th anniversary. We have lived in Destin almost 4 years now and this has been the best meal we have eaten in Destin, even the best we've eaten out at a restaurant ever. Very prompt and personal service. Food portions were huge. Wife ordered the pan seared grouper and I had the New York strip. We ordered two sides, both were Family portion servings. We made reservations, I mentioned it was our anniversary and flowers were at the table upon arrival. If you haven't eaten here, do yourself a favor and do so.

My wife, myself and my 18 year old daughter had a 6:30 reservation and we arrived 5 mins early and we were promptly seated. The server Kelsey was fantastic! Each of our respective meals was perfect! We highly recommend the crab cakes! My bone in filet was incredible. Love this place!

Nice fine dining option in Baytowne Wharf. Ordered a filet but the waiter brought me lobster tails. I ate 'em anyway, and they were delicious.

Ugh. Where to begin. Go somewhere else. It's not good. The server was nice but kinda on my nerves. Acted like we we should feel honored to be eating here. Family owned blah blah blah. I've never seen so much dried parsley sprinkled over plates and food in my life. O-ver-Done!!!! Shrimp cocktail - tasted fine. Presentation amature at best. Filet Oscar style - just not good. Piled with some kinda onion rings on top of the filet piled with cheap tasting crab. Gross. Seafood trio - what a mess. Fish all over the plate and again so much dried parsley everywhere. My wife had to ask what was what. Just a mess of fish so over seasoned. My son had a kids filet. He said it was fine but potatoes were cold. His filet looked much better than mine. Daughter had a grilled cheese that she didn't eat. She said it wasn't good. Sat for 15 minutes after we finished with dirty plates in front of us. The hostess and other staff walked by 20 times and nobody bothered to ask if we were finished or picked up our plates. Our server finally came back and asked if we wanted desert while we stared and plates of uneaten food. Uh no we are ready for the check. $175 for the meal and a few drinks. Pass on this place. The pizza down the dock is unbelievable.

Worst meal I've had in a long time. The service was fine, waiter was a little soft spoken but took care of everything for us. Started with the duck egg rolls...terrible. Tasted like the cheapest of chinese restaurants, but at least the chinese restaurants have the decency to include it as a free addition to their meals, not as a refined appetizer at an upscale restaurant. The best part of the meal was the caesar salad. Dressed just right, lettuce was ice cold which I like, made it taste very fresh. Ordered the pan-seared grouper. Weak at best. Tasted like a sweet butter sauce that I would expect to dress a fish for a children's meal. No development of flavors at all, but compared to the steak was the most edible of the entrees. The steak...that was almost inedible. FIrst it came out beyond rare (ordered medium rare) so they took it back to try again. That was not the disappointing part. When it came back out, I tried it again. I can't describe the flavor, almost tasted like burnt rubber, maybe a little charcoal ashes, I don't know. Had my wife try it, she couldn't eat it either. Asked the waiter afterwards and he wasn't sure, but tried to attribute it to it being aged. Although I am no steak expert, I've had aged steaks from the best of restaurants (Peter Luger's in NYC and Mastro's in Beverly Hills), and those steaks were phenomenal. Something was wrong with this steak. Based on some of the other reviews, I'm sure this was a fluke. Probably was overaged or the temperature was not controlled well for the aging process. Not sure, it's been a day and I'm not sick so that's good. They need to replace the chef, the place looks great, it's in a great location, supposedly they have a pretty extensive wine list, but the food was terrible. Forgot to talk about the sides. Was excited to try the ricotta mashed potatoes, they tasted like very plain mashed potatoes. Was expecting it to be fluffy and rich, was not the case. Also got the grilled vegetables. They were big gawky skewers, under seasoned and showed no finesse. Weak, really weak.

Dined last night sans children and wanted a nice-but-not-too-stuffy place in Destin where one could get a good steak and the other some fresh seafood. Reviews seemed mostly positive so we gave it a go. PROS: Nice atmosphere; friendly staff; decent wine list; valet or garage parking; plenty of shops and things to do before/after in Wharf area; quality of food was good; creamed spinach was delicious, nice views from inside restaurant looking out. CONS: Ordered filet medium and it came out medium rare & took forever to address/refire; mashed potatoes were just OK; waiter all but said "I wouldn't order a dessert here" with a lackluster description and already handing us the check while asking "would you like to hear about our desserts?", there were roving ladies walking around with a basket over their arms like Little Red Riding Hood, handing out rolls with butter to patrons. Their skimpy outfits left very little to imagination. If I'd wanted to see that, I would have gone to Hooters, restrooms were up two steep staircases.

Good service. Nice atmosphere... But the food was not great. And it is expensive. All al a cart... Ordered filet and the quality is the same you would find at longhorns. Maybe even worse. For the money definitely not worth it.

we have enjoyed Marlin Grill for many years. We have two little girls who dine with us and the staff and restaurant is alway very family friendly. we love sitting outside and watching the concerts while we dine. The mac & cheese, creamed spinach and filet's are our family favorites. They always treat us well and the food is amazing. They make a great martini and i particularly like the CHOCOLATE martini. yum! It's located in the heart of Baytowne Village inside the Sandestin Resort so after we eat and watch live music, we can go shopping and watch the boats come in and out of the marina...new zip line and ropes course there too!

If you're going to the Destin area and want to enjoy an upscale dinner more on the quiet side, this is the place to go. I recently visited the Florida panhandle area (Seacrest beach) with my family and husband. After dealing with loud, crowded restaurants full of large families with small children, we were itching for a nice dinner without all the noise. We were very pleased with our meals at the Marlin Grill--ranging from grouper to cedar-plank salmon to rare tuna to crab cakes. All of our entrees were delicious and cooked to perfection. The fried artichoke hearts appetizer was very yummy, too. The wait staff was on key, and the complementary bread (brought to your table out of a giant bread basket) was soft and delicious. One of the best things about this restaurant is that it is located in the Baytowne Wharf village near Sandestin resort. We dined inside the restaurant, but they have a large outdoor patio that is great for people-watching or listening to the live band. After our meal we strolled around the village and checked out some of the shops, live music, and other bars.

Marlin's is a better alternative to the smoky bar type eateries elsewhere in the Wharf. My wife and I were with our two children (four and 8 months) which wasn't an issue with the greeters. The waiter made us feel rushed because "he knows how it can be with kids." Our children are well behaved and at no time did we feel the need to leave because of their behavior. Getting anything from him aside from his pass to take our order and serving the food, was a chore. At no time were we offered anything other than water and no suggestions were made for us. My wife said that the waiter was "nice" but I have had plenty of good waiters, and just "nice" isn't ok. The food was good enough; I had Mahi-Mahi and my wife had a filet. The Mahi was covered in a sauce and diced veggies and I had a hard time tasting the fish itself. The filet was cooked properly (was scared by some other reviewers) and the grilled veggies were well prepared, but bland. I had initially worried that my girls would be loud, seeing as how Marlin's gives the presentation of a high-end establishment, but the locals, fresh off the golf course, were the annoyance of the evening. It seems as if the Baytowne Wharf is a spot for the exclusive double-gated community to stumble to without having to drive anywhere else. Not very impressed. Too many other things to do in Destin to waste a day here. Pass.

We celebrated our 8th wedding here. Had not eaten previously. Sat on the second level. Beautiful ambiance, soft lighting, round room. Slightly noisy. Our waitress, Charly, was awesome! She instantly made us feel like we were the only ones in the room. Detailed yet intuitive. Led us through our choices delicately. Found out she had only worked there two months. Hard to believe. Had her choose a martini for me and she did great! Our meal was very nice. We shared the crab stuffed grouper which I would highly recommend. She surprised us with an anniversary dessert, a white chocolate creme brûlée. We will definitely be back!

I've only eaten at Marlin Grill once, and my overall reaction is "Ick". I ordered an ahi tuna appetizer, which I've ordered in dozens of other restaurants and loved. Instead of serving thin slices of ahi with a nice sauce, theirs was served as big, thick chunks of tuna. Worse yet, it was "off". I only took a bite or two, then got a couple of dining friends to sample it to confirm my opinion, and ended up sending it back. To their credit, they did not charge me for the tuna. My friends who were with me were similarly disappointed with their selections, which were just "OK", and over-priced.

There is no better place to spend an evening in Sandestin, than the Marlin Grill. The food is always exceptionally good and the service is predictably superb. The bar is a great venue for a fun and truly enjoyable evening. The bar staff is a perfect match for this establishment and makes every patron welcome as they strive to provide your "perfect beverage" to accompany your meal. The ambiance is the best!

One of my favorite places in Sandestin's Baytown Wharf! I've probably eaten here over 15 times over the years. Really solid menu, great steaks, fresh fish, large portions and overall nice deserts. They have one of the best wine lists I have ever seen, please ask for Chris if you have questions about it because he is very helpful. The ambiance is nice, they have outdoor seating on a nice night. They always take great care of my kids and have a nice selection for them. Overall a great place for a night out with the family!

Good food, great service, wonderful atmosphere, but a not very accommodating manager. They apparently do not allow outside wine at all... Not even charging an outrageous corking fee or anything. The manager was pretty adamant about not making any exception (despite my family having patronized this restaurant for every bit of its 8 year existence) so that started us off on a very sour note. Our waitress was wonderful, especially considering that our unfavorable beginning left her with a bit of an uphill battle on her hands. She was very friendly and attentive. The food was pretty good - not outstanding: Beef carpaccio - quite good, served on top of a mound of greens Smoked salmon - great salmon, but almost overwhelmed by the horseradish sauce (which was very tasty, but overpowering) and again served on a mound of greens... read: don't bother getting a salad Fried green tomatoes - good, but not particularly special Both the steaks at the table (ribeye and NY strip) were cooked as ordered, and the fish dishes (mahi, grouper x2, and trio special) were excellent. The NY strip came with an amazing lump of rosemary butter that was delicious as is melted on top of the meat. The ribeye was good, but nothing special. The fish special trio sampler was a nice taste of three of the fish selections - the mahi mahi, the sauteed grouper, and the ahi tuna. Of the three, the tuna was the least impressive while the others were very appetizing and were present in larger portions at our table as well. For dessert, the Godiva creme brulee was a real standout but the three layer chocolate cake put up a fair fight. Unfortunately, we ended the evening in a similar manner to how we started; with a disappointing manager encounter. This time, when presenting our homeowners association card for the typical local's discount, we were informed that for this restaurant, in lieu of the standard monetary discount applied to the bill, they require homeowners to inform the server of their local status upon arrival to receive 1 free bottle of wine per 2 entrees. Imagine how ridiculous we looked leaving arguably the most upscale restaurant in the Wharf with 4 bottles of wine in a Chinese-take-out style plastic bag. It's a shame that the restaurant management found no issue with this approach that left my family questioning continued patronage after 8 years of enjoyment.

Great fish, steaks not as good, upstairs dining room was freezing cold. Requests to turn down temp ignored. Good place, recommend pan seared grouper, downstairs!!!

if you are within a hundred feet of this grill and you are hungry, then eat HERE. if you eat dinner ANYWHERE else, you run the risk of seeing a bachelorette's butt-cheek, or being trampled by fanny-packed out-of-towners, or paying 12 dollars for a plate of frozen shrimp with the shells still on, or eating dinner while a speaker blasts your face off with 'wheel in the sky.' so, if you have any taste whatsoever and you are in this weird place, you better either eat fudge for dinner, or suck it up and shell out some cash for the marlin grill, which is in fact a nice place to eat. i had a delicious pan seared grouper with a side of mushrooms, which are a must-order actually, and my talisker was a fabulous deal- something like ten bucks if i recall. my mother ordered crab cakes that tasted great, her martini was top-notch, and the service (at the bar where we sat) was beyond lovely.
